Open calculator →Which Canadian Tax Calculator Do You Need?
Got a job, a pension, or both? Start with the Canadian income tax calculator. It works out federal and provincial tax, CPP and EI, and whether you are heading for a refund or a bill.
Work for yourself? The self-employed tax calculator tells you how much to set aside each month. It includes both halves of CPP, which is the part that surprises people in their first April.
Selling things or services and getting busy? Run the GST/HST registration calculator. It applies CRA's $30,000 small supplier tests quarter by quarter and gives you the date you have to register by.
Sold investments, a cottage or land? The capital gains tax calculator handles the principal residence exemption too.
Sold a rental property? Use the rental property sale calculator. It separates recaptured CCA (fully taxed) from the capital gain (half taxed). The difference is usually a five-figure surprise.
Thinking about an RRSP contribution? The RRSP tax savings calculator estimates your room and what the contribution saves at your marginal rate.
Got a notice from CRA? The CRA objection deadline calculator gives you the last day to dispute it. Write that date on the fridge.
Why You Can Trust These Numbers (and Where You Shouldn't)
Each calculator reads from one rules file: the 2026 brackets, credits, CPP and EI rates, thresholds and deadlines, with the CRA or government page each value came from. Before any update goes live, the math is checked against hand-worked examples, CRA's own published examples and a second, independent calculation. You can see every source on our sources page, and the whole approach on how our answers work.
Now the honest part. These are estimates for common situations. They don't include every credit (medical, tuition, disability, donations and dividends are not in yet), and they can't know what's missing from your paperwork. A calculator that agrees with your hopes is still only as good as the numbers you typed in.
Tax Rates Behind the Calculators
For 2026, the federal rates are 14%, 20.5%, 26%, 29% and 33%, and each province adds its own brackets on top. The full tables, plus what the combined rate looks like at seven common incomes, are in our 2026 Canadian income tax brackets guide.
Numbers look big? Turn them into a finished return
If the calculator says you sold a rental, a cottage or a home, the matching SmartFile goes further: exact lines for your return, the forms filled in, and a worksheet you can hand to your accountant.
Calculator Questions
Are these Canadian tax calculators up to date for 2026?
Yes. They use the 2026 federal and provincial rules from CRA's payroll formulas (T4127, January and July 2026 editions), provincial budgets and CRA's published rates. The date of the last check is on our sources page.
Do the calculators work for Quebec?
No. Quebec has its own provincial return and rules. The calculators cover every other province and territory.
Do you store the numbers I enter?
No. The math runs in your browser and your numbers are saved only in your own browser so they are still there next time.
Why is my real tax different from the estimate?
Usually because of credits or deductions the calculator does not include, tax already withheld at source, or income that is taxed differently, such as dividends. The calculator lists what it assumed so you can spot the gap.
Not sure which number you need?
Describe your situation and the AI assistant picks the right calculator, fills in what it can and explains the result.
