GST/HST registration SmartFile
Find your GST/HST registration date, what to charge, quick method or regular, and get registered with the forms filled in.
Your sales are getting close to $30,000, or already went past it. This SmartFile tells you exactly when you have to register, gets you registered, and sets you up to charge and file correctly from day one.
What it does
- Runs CRA’s two tests on your sales, quarter by quarter, and gives you the date your registration must be effective.
- Weighs voluntary registration if you are under the threshold, based on who your customers are and what you spend.
- Compares the quick method with the regular method using CRA’s remittance rates for your province, and shows which one leaves more money with you.
- Gets you registered: a printed answer sheet for Business Registration Online or the phone, with your effective date and filing period worked out.
- If you are late, estimates what CRA can ask for and how to fix the past before it asks.
- Sets you up: the rate to charge customers in each province, what your invoices must show, your filing and payment dates, and form GST74 filled in if you choose the quick method.
Good to know
- Registering is free. Taxi and ride-sharing drivers must register from their first fare.
- Exempt sales (long-term residential rent, most health care, child care, financial services) do not count toward the $30,000.
- Quebec businesses register with Revenu Québec and are not covered.
One time. No subscription.
Secure checkout by Stripe. Your private workspace opens right after payment. Quebec is not covered yet.
