Free Canadian Tax Tools
Every free tool in one place: CRA letter and document analyzers, tax calculators, deadline checkers and SmartFiles.
The short version
- Every free tool on CanadianTaxes.ai in one place: document readers, calculators, the AI tax assistant and the deadline checker.
- The CRA Letter Analyzer and the Tax Document Analyzer read a letter or slip you upload and explain it in plain English. Nothing is saved on our server.
- The calculators use the 2026 federal and provincial rules for every province and territory except Quebec, and show their math and CRA sources.
- SmartFiles are paid workspaces for a whole tax problem, such as a CRA objection or a GST/HST registration, and fill in the forms for you to check.
- None of these tools replace CRA's decision or a professional for audits, collections or large amounts.
Free Canadian Tax Tools
Some tax questions need an explanation. Most need a number, a date or a translation of what CRA just sent you. These tools do those three jobs. Each one says what it assumed and where its rules came from, because a tax tool that won't show its work is just a confident guess.

Not sure what you need? The tax problem solver has two doors: find credits and benefits you may be missing, or get the steps for a CRA problem.
Read a Document
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| What Can I Claim? | Tick what applies to your family; get the credits, deductions and benefits worth checking, with estimates |
| CRA Letter Analyzer | Reads a CRA letter or notice, lists what changed, the amounts and deadlines, and the next steps |
| Notice of Assessment Analyzer | Reads your notice of assessment or reassessment, explains the changes, and lists what to act on, from next year's RRSP limit to carryforwards |
| Construction Invoice Analyzer | Reads supplier and subcontractor invoices and checks GST/HST paperwork, the rate, T5018 and capital items |
| Tax Document Analyzer | Reads CRA notices and tax slips (T4, T4A, T5, T3) and explains each box and where it goes on your return |
Work Out a Number
| Calculator | Answers |
|---|---|
| Income tax calculator | Federal and provincial tax, CPP, EI, refund or balance for 2026 |
| Salary tax calculator | Take-home pay per paycheque after tax, CPP and EI |
| Tax refund estimator | Refund or balance owing, from your slips |
| Self-employed tax calculator | How much to set aside for tax and both halves of CPP |
| Should I incorporate? | Sole proprietor vs corporation, this year and after payout |
| GST/HST calculator | Add or remove GST/HST for any province |
| Capital gains calculator | Tax on a sale, with the principal residence exemption |
| RRSP tax savings calculator | What a contribution saves at your income |
All of them are on tax calculators.
Not sure which tool you need?
Describe your situation in a sentence. The AI tax assistant answers with the CRA source, and opens the right calculator under the answer, filled in with your numbers.
Check a Deadline
- CRA objection deadline calculator: the last day to dispute a notice, and the last day to ask for an extension.
- GST/HST $30,000 test: whether and from when you have to register.
- Every other date is on tax deadlines in Canada.
Solve a Whole Problem
SmartFiles are private workspaces for one tax job: a CRA objection, a GST/HST registration, a rental property sale or a home or cottage sale. They ask the questions, do the math and prepare the CRA forms for you to check, sign and send. Before you file a return, Return Check compares it with the changes CRA makes most.
How Our Tools Work
The calculators and the AI read the same rules file: every rate, threshold and deadline stored once, with the CRA or Finance Canada page it came from and the date we last checked it. The calculators are tested against hand-worked examples before every update. The AI explains; it doesn't do math in its head. More on that is on how our answers work.
Tax Tools Questions
Are the tax tools on CanadianTaxes.ai free?
The calculators, the document and letter analyzers and the AI tax assistant are free, within fair-use limits. SmartFiles, which prepare forms for a specific problem, are paid.
Do the calculators work for my province?
Yes, for every province and territory except Quebec, using the 2026 federal and provincial rules.
Is my uploaded document saved?
No. Uploaded letters and slips are read once and deleted when the request ends. We keep only the type of document for statistics.
Can these tools file my taxes?
No. They explain, calculate and prepare. You file your return with certified tax software or a preparer, and CRA decides every return.
Are the results guaranteed?
No. They are estimates based on the information you enter and the rules as we checked them. CRA’s assessment is final.
